What is your best asset?
Your Brain! 🙂
Perhaps I’m biassed – I am a neurologist of course, and love all things brain-related 🙂
Most of you would probably agree that your brain gives you your personality and intelligence.
Let’s do something today to give our brains some love and care!
Today I share three things you can do to protect your brain, your best asset:
[1] Stabilise Blood Sugar Spikes

The graph above illustrates how our blood sugar levels can rise after food (or fluids with sugar).
Ideally, we maintain this in an optimum range, without sharp spikes in blood sugar levels.
A sharp spike can be accompanied by a rapid crash, that even drops below the optimal range for a brief moment, until your body restabilises it.
During this rapid downward crash of blood sugar, it can cause some people to experience difficulty concentrating, mood change, and migraines.
Have you noticed this in yourself?
Three things to try today to prevent blood sugar spikes:
[] consume vegetables before your carbohydrate.
[] Minimise fluid with sugar, including fruit juices.
[] get a good night’s sleep
[2] Social Connection
Healthy social connections can boost general and brain health.
This could be through the intellectual stimulation of a conversation.
Or the emotional bond of a good relationship.
The US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy has done a lot of work to highlight the risk of the loneliness epidemic on health.
Strong social connections can have a brain-protective benefit for preventing cognitive decline.
Question for you: who would you like to send a message or call to further build your bond and social connection today?
[3] Yoga & Mindfulness
I previously shared about the brain health benefits of yoga.
This includes through the reduction of stress levels and improved sleep.
A mindful practice of yoga can also translate to improved neuroplasticity (new brain connections) to benefit memory and learning.
Regular yoga and mindfulness can also reduce migraines and balance the autonomic nervous system.
A group of people have expressed an interest in doing yoga sessions online with me. Is this you too? If so, please register your interest here:

In the meantime, if you would like me to write more about any of the above three topics, do drop me a note, thank you 🙂
I will do a deeper dive in blood sugar spikes in a future edition of [TT].
I hope you have a good conversation with some today.
Yours in health
